Washing windows is never fun and washing screens is even less so. They seem to get dirty so quickly, especially during those cooler winter months. Have no fear! The 5 step system below will have your dirty, dull screens looking brand spanking new in no time!
- Set a routine– I know this first one isn’t a cleaning tip but it’s the most important step. Not only does cleaning regularly keep the screens looking nice, it also keeps the dirt and grime to a manageable level. Instead of scrubbing for hours, it will only take a few minutes to remove the dirt and creating less work in the long run.
- Remove dirt with a vacuum– Remove excess dirt, bugs and whatever else has accumulated on the screen first. Make sure you use caution when using a vacuum so you don’t rip or tear the screen.
Place all the screens on a tarp on a flat surface in your yard (saves time to do them all at once)– Spray each screen front and back with your garden hose.
- Scrub the screens– With a solution of warm water, a few drops of dish soap and a soft scrub brush, gently scrub off the dirt and debris on the screens. Make sure you get both sides of the screen. A toothbrush works great for the corners where a larger brush has trouble fitting.
- Rinse the screens– (making sure all the soap gets removed) and sit them up to air dry. You will want to make sure they are completely dry before reinstalling them so cleaning the screens on a nicer day is super helpful.
It’s really that easy and makes a huge difference in the appearance of the window and also with seeing out. No more squinting through dirty screens!
