Check out these six tips to help you prepare your home for the upcoming winter holidays, whether it’s Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or New Years’ Eve!

The holiday season is upon us, and along with it comes all the hustle and bustle that comes with decorating your home for the winter holidays. Make your holiday decorating easier on yourself by following these five tips for holiday home decorating. After reading our blog, you’ll have some creative ideas to use to get your home ready for Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Years’ and any other winter holidays you celebrate!

1) Incorporate lights!

One of the best ways to get into the holiday spirit is to decorate your home with lights. Lights can be used inside and outside, and there are so many different ways to incorporate them into your decor. You can string them around doorways, drape them over mantles, or even wrap them around trees. Get creative and have fun!

You can even make great use of your fireplace, festive candles, and more here to keep your home feeling well-lit and warm.

2) Add some greenery.

One of the easiest ways to get into the holiday spirit is to add some greenery to your home. You can buy a Christmas tree, of course, but there are other options as well. Poinsettias are a festive and inexpensive option, and you can find them in red, white, or pink. Or, for a more unique look, try a small evergreen tree or some holly branches.

Additionally, pinecones, wooden branches, and such can really help bring the outside, inside. You can collect, spray paint, and decorate as you prefer.

You can also add any plants that are considered auspicious in your culture!

3) Find unique centerpieces!

One way to really make your holiday decor stand out is to get creative with your centerpieces. Instead of just using traditional candles or poinsettias, try something unique. You can get crafty and make your own centerpieces using items you already have around the house. Try mason jars, tea lights, berries, snowflakes, and so on. Get creative and have fun!

Or, you can look in thrift shops and local antique stores for more unique finds. Maybe you will find a vintage nativity scene, rustic menorah, or something else that ties all your decorations together. There are typically great seasonal collections at most local shops as such, since people are quick to throw out old decorations they no longer use. But these items are bound to be found and can still be treasured if you style them in your home properly!

4) Switch out pillows, blankets, and even kitchenware.

One of the easiest ways to change up your home’s look for the holidays is by switching out some of your regular household items with festive ones. This can be as simple as swapping out your everyday couch pillows for some holiday-themed ones or exchanging your kitchen towels for some that have a holiday pattern. You can also go all out and get a whole new set of dishes and glasses that are special for the holidays. This is a great way to make your home feel more festive without spending a lot of money. Switching out even one thing, like a throw blanket, in an area of your house can instantly update the entire space.

If you want to spend less time on decoration but still give your house a cozy feeling, consider changing up your floor coverings with rugs of different colors, textures and sizes. While this may seem insignificant at first glance, it can totally transform how your rooms feel.

5) Create Edible Decorations!

One of the best things about the winter holidays is all of the delicious food and baked goodies that are around. Why not take advantage of that and use some of it as decorations for your home? Gingerbread cookies, peppermint bark, or anything you can think of will work to decorate your space! Set them out on a nice tray and there you have it!

You can do the same thing, like filling jars of candy canes, chocolates, and so on. Or, try putting together your own charcuterie board with your family’s favorites.

If you are passionate about cooking and baking and are looking for a more detailed project, you can create a family recipe and set it out on a cake platter or special themed kitchenware to share at dinner!

6) Add photos.

The holidays are a great time to add personal touches to your home decor. Photos are a great way to do this. They can be used to represent different aspects of the holiday season, such as family, friends, and memories. Use photo frames or get the pictures professionally printed on canvases! Plus, photos add a personal touch that makes your home feel more inviting during the colder months.
